![]() ![]() Having said that, grey aircraft fade quite dramatically, which could add some visual interest: I’m not entirely sure I agree with the colours for the aircraft identifications for the listed schemes either. I can’t say I’ve overly thrilled by either of those and the decal sheet is missing some quite important decals, such as the nose code that sits between the radome and the cockpit glazing, a lot of the stencils, as well as the quite distinctive “Spectre” nose art that accompanies the aircraft’s name (also missing) on the side of the cockpit. The schemes offered by the kit are 568 in all-over gunship grey, or 574 in all-over black. One area that is going to need some thought is the colour scheme. I realise there's still a way to go, but I'm genuinely surprised there's not another gunship entrant - yet! Let’s not even go there with the raised panel lines, I think I’m just going to live with them or I’ll spend the entire GB just rescribing! Also, this is genuinely as close as the two halves of the nose will come to each other, which means more work there as well. The starboard side is correct, the port side has a large amount of flash extending into the glazing area. As you can see the line for the edge of the cockpit glazing is going to need refining. While I’m trying to not go overboard on accuracy on this one (it’s most likely going to end up hung from the ceiling in my son’s room) the kit is definitely going to need some work. I think the better condition one is the set from this kit and the other is probably one that a model-making friend of my grandparents gave me: Interestingly, I appear to have two sets of decals for this. While some of it looks alright, some of it really isn’t: Unusually, I’ll be starting this build by stripping the existing Humbrol enamel paint off. I’ve run this past Col and he’s happy that this is below the 25% mark: I’ll be 41 next month, which means it’s been 25 years in the making so far. This is a kit I’ve started in the past, a very, very long way in the past! I can remember working on this while I was still at secondary school, so I’d guess I’d have been around 15 or 16 when I first messed with it. Digging deep into the stash for this one, I came up with this venerable Airfix AC-130H Hercules:
